I know it only cold for a few months, anyway my question is plumbing really or if anyone has added a heater what did you dooooo.

looked at smiths heaters which are mostly 12 volt big n ugly ...

so now i found a nice 12 inch radiator and looking at my little 8 engine it seems there is no blanking to connect a heater valve.

there is a tap at the bottom of the radiator before the pump which i can adapt to connect a hose, if i put the radiator in passenger footwell 64 million dollar question where best to tap into so i create an inlet and outlet and as the system is gravity syphon is there any constraints

if no one answers hopefully my postscript to this topic will be driving in a t shirt after my heath robinson heater make me 2 warm

This is a bit of a longshot... but I thought someone here might be able to help me.

My grandfather died just before I was born in 1971 and gave his car - an Austin Somerset - to my mother who drove around in it until I was about 3 or 4! It then lived in our garage until I was about 10 and was sat in and played with by a generation of my cousins etc.

I am now getting married (on St Valentine's Day, Feb 14th 2009) in Notting Hill in London and would love to go to or from the church (or both!) in the same car as it would be a lovely surprise for my family... I think it would make my mother and her sisters cry actually!

I would be happy to pay someone to bring their car to London for the afternoon (the wedding is at 4pm) or give some money to any charity of their choosing if they preferred, but I have no idea of where to even start to look for one/an enthusiast etc. and wonder if anyone could point me in the right direction?

Any advice would be very gratefully received!

Hi I have fitted this Part from a Local Manufacturer - I works fine with the original equipment - so you can prevent the nice austin back from ugly flashers.

- Uses the Brake light for flashing
- controls the trafficator without "wipping"
- Easy to install without cutting wires

Cost is about 80 GBP

Geoff,

I don't think the wattage should make any difference either. I must admit I still just take my chances with the trafficators on my 16, but I think you could narrow this down to one of the following:

Firstly, a bad connection or a bad earth connection. As you know flashers will go like the clappers if you have a bulb out, so a poor connection might have the same effect, even if it's lighting all the bulbs.

Secondly, does your new flasher unit have the same pins etc. as the old one? If the new unit has more pins, then it may be expecting more bulbs - e.g. repeater bulbs on the wings etc - if it has no bulb where it was expecting one, or less resistance, it will flash quicker. It probably depends upon which car it was original equipment for.

Have you tested it off the car? Does it flash OK then?

Good luck,

The (retro-fitted) direction indicators stopped working on my Austin 16. First the left hand ones and a couple of days later the right hand ones failed. I have fitted a new Lucas SFB105 flasher unit and they now work but at a much quicker flash rate than they should. The unit I put on is 12 volt 46 watt. The old unit was a Lucas FL5 12 volt 21 watt. I've been told by a competent electrician that this should not make nay difference. Does anyone know better or has anyone experienced this problem and have a solution?

Hi Rolf,

Try http://www.automobiletrim.com/headlining.html

The material you are looking for is Union cloth, and is known as headlining material. You may need to send a small sample to the company to ensure a colour match.

Paul -

I can't really help you there, but I would recommend fitting a Toyota or Mazda box - they will be very small and can fit in there, all you will need is to sort out the bell housing which usually a decent machine shop can figure out by adapting an old bell housing.

I do know about the BW/DG boxes but they usually went on C-series motors and Jag XKs so probably too big and meaty for your A-35.

Have you tried the A35 club? They may have some good ideas here:

Also I might suggest this forum, they can be particularly very helpful:

Good luck!

[Austin Atlantic Forum] Source for New Coil Springs - info if needed.

All -

I thought you would like to know that I put new brand new coil springs on my A90 and they set just perfect and the ride is excellent. I had them made in the UK at only 44 pound each at

http://testedspring.com/

The specifications I used were:

Free Length........Min. 11.13" to 11.43", (Min cm= 28.27)
Fitted..................Min. 7.78" to 7.98", (Min cm= 19.76)
Coils...................8.5
Coil Id.................3.599"

Each spring needs to carry approximately 450 kg (you could probably get away with about 430kg for the convertible)

By the way my Atlantic has passed its HK Safety test (very stringent version of the MOT) and it's the only Atlantic ever registered in Hong Kong's history, so the testing bureau took about 50 pictures of all elements of the car for their records.

Cheers!
